Scott D. Smiley is a Registered Patent Attorney who concentrates his practice on Patent and Trademark law, with a special emphasis on the prosecution and litigation of patents dealing with the electronic arts.
Mr. Smiley serves as an Adjunct Professor of Patent Law at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Scott holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and, before entering the field of law, spent many years designing antenna and communication systems for military and commercial aircraft, as well as magnetic components for a broad range of electronic applications. Also before becoming an attorney, Mr. Smiley served as a Professor of Engineering at a local South Florida college, teaching classes in electrical engineering as well as computer programming.
Scott earned his law degree from Nova Southeastern University's, Shepard Broad Law Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During law school, he served as Chief Advocate of the Moot Court Honor Society, Asst. Tech. Editor of the Journal of International and Comparative Law, Student Justice of the Honor Court, Student Prosecutor of the Honor Court, Student Defender of the Honor Court, Winner of Best Brief and Semi-Finalist for Oral Arguments at the E. Earle Zehmer Moot Court Competition, and was granted membership in the National Order of Barristers for “Exhibiting Excellence in Courtroom Advocacy.”
